The Foundation's Goals
Current Projects Include...
Road to Rio Congo: The foundation received a contract from the Panamanian Government to build a road from the Pan-American Highway into the community of Congo, a total distance of 20km. This road will help provide a means for farmers to get their crops and cattle to market as well as give a direct route to the nearest major town of Torti, which holds the centers of commerce for that area and transportation to the city.
Rice and Grain Production: The foundation is one of the largest producers of rice in all of Alto Bayano, largely due to the great need there. The foundation plants, harvests, processes and sells rice locally below the market value, giving the poor an opportunity to save money on a food that is a staple in the Panamanian diet. Along with this, many elderly people receive rice and beans monthly at no cost to help them along.
Future Hopeful Projects Include...
Rio Sabana Dam: The people of Cañazas and surrounding villages are highly dependent on a water source from Rio Sabana (The Sabana River) which during the dry season does not provide adequate water and can become rather dirty causing problems with the aqueduct system. A small dam has been proposed as a solution to the problem and has already been designed by an engineering group for the site. Funding for this project is one on major factors holding this project back; a project that would greatly benefit the people of Cañazas.
